Whether your operations are in aluminium production, refractory manufacturing, abrasives, cement, chemicals, or steel, our Bauxite provides reliable performance and consistency, ensuring optimal results in your production processes.
What is Bauxite? Bauxite is the principal ore of aluminium, composed primarily of aluminium hydroxide minerals such as gibbsite (Al(OH)₃), boehmite (γ-AlO(OH)), and diaspore (α-AlO(OH)). It also contains varying amounts of iron oxides, silica, and titanium dioxide. The unique composition of Bauxite makes it the primary source for aluminium production and a valuable material for various industrial applications.
Industrial Applications of Bauxite: 1. Aluminium Production. Bauxite is the primary raw material for aluminium production. Through the Bayer process, alumina (Al₂O₃) is extracted from Bauxite and subsequently reduced to aluminium metal via the Hall-Héroult process. Approximately 70% to 80% of the world's dry Bauxite production is processed into alumina and then into aluminium by electrolysis. 2. Refractory Materials-Calcined Bauxite is used in the manufacture of refractory products due to its high alumina content and thermal stability. It is essential in producing refractory bricks, castables, and ceramic linings for furnaces and kilns. 3. Abrasives-Bauxite is converted into alumina, which is then used to manufacture abrasive products. These abrasives are essential for cutting, grinding, and polishing various materials. 4. Cement Industry-Bauxite is used as an additive in the production of Portland cement to improve strength and durability. It also serves as a raw material for high-alumina cement, which is known for its rapid hardening properties. 5. Chemical Industry-Alumina derived from Bauxite is used to produce various chemicals, including aluminium sulfate, which is utilized in water treatment, paper manufacturing, and textile processing. 6. Steel Industry-In the steel industry, Bauxite is used as a fluxing agent in blast furnaces and as a source of alumina in the production of ferroalloys. 7. Petroleum Industry-Activated Bauxite is used as a drying agent for gases and organic liquids, making it suitable for applications in the petroleum industry. 8. Aerospace and Electrical Industries-Bauxite is a key constituent in the manufacture of components for the airplane-making industry, electric industry, and machinery, owing to its high aluminium content.
